Joining process
Joining the AnarBib network
This page is for anarchist militant libraries that wish to join the network. The process is intentionally simple at this stage: no automated form, no bureaucratic procedure. A request by email, read by comrades, handled on a human scale.
Before you ask
Three quick readings, in this order:
- Read the minimal charter of the network — ten articles, five minutes. It is the only text you will have to sign.
- Read the project presentation — what it is, why we do it, how it works.
- Read the project progress — what works, what is under construction, what doesn't yet exist.
If after these three readings you want to go further, write to us.
How to write
Send an email to contato@anarbib.org using the template below. You may write in Portuguese, French, Castilian, English, Italian, or German — all these languages are read in the network.
Subject: Request to join the AnarBib network — [your library's name] Hello, We are the library [name], located in [city, region, country]. Who we are (a few lines): [Short presentation of the collective: how long you have existed, your roots, your approximate collection, your practices, what connects you to the anarchist tradition.] Our collection: - Approximate volume: [estimated number of documents] - Main types: [books, brochures, periodicals, archives, etc.] - Current catalogue: [none / spreadsheet / other ILS / etc.] Our request: [ ] Instance hosted by the network (recommended to start) [ ] Autonomous installation on our own infrastructure [ ] We don't know yet and would like to discuss Reference person(s): - Name: [first name last name or pseudonym] - Contact email: [address] - Other channel if any: [Matrix, XMPP, phone, etc.] We have read the minimal charter of the network and recognise ourselves in it. Libertarian greetings, [signature]
What happens next
- Acknowledgement — within a few days, a response confirms that the request has been received.
- Exchange — one or two sponsoring libraries of the network get in touch with you to make acquaintance, answer your questions, and present your candidacy to the rest of the network.
- Welcome — if the network welcomes your candidacy (by asynchronous consensus), we accompany you in setting up: instance opening, first configuration, first steps.
- Going live — your library is online. Allow on average two to four weeks between the initial request and the effective opening to the public.
If you hesitate
You may also write simply to discuss, with no commitment. Many libraries prefer to understand before deciding. That is legitimate, and we prefer an honest exchange to a rushed adhesion.
You can also join the discussion channel of the network — Matrix: #anarbib:matrix.org — to observe the project from the inside before applying. No AnarBib account is required for this.
For isolated comrades
If you are not in a library but want to support the project, follow its evolution, or contribute (code, translations, documentation, testing), go to the Contribute page. And if you simply want to know how AnarBib is used as a reader, the Manual is at your disposal. The application above only concerns library collectives, not isolated individuals.
Page updated on 2 May 2026. The joining process is meant to formalise progressively as the network grows. The principle will remain the same: welcomed by humans, on a human scale.
